Being angry is a totally normal human emotion, and everyone handles feeling angry differently. Some people need to have a run or go to the gym to work it off, some people need to talk about their anger, some people scream or shout, and some people may need to get away from everything and run away. Whichever way you deal with your anger is ok as long as you aren’t hurting anyone or putting yourself in danger.
Sometimes when people are angry other people find it easier to dismiss them or not help them, which can make feelings of anger and frustration stronger. People may say things like ‘calm down’ instead of trying to find out why you are angry.
If you do run away when you get angry, make sure that you stay as safe as you can by staying in a busy, well-lit area – when people are angry they can get very distracted by everything they are thinking and may not notice that they are in a dangerous situation, so being as safe as you can be is important.
If you do end up in a dangerous situation, remember you can call the Police at any time for help – you will not be in trouble with them for running away because it is not a crime.
